Women Offenders in Wiltshire
User Voice was commissioned by the National Offender Management Service (NOMS) in 2011 to run a consultation with women offenders in the South West of England.
We conducted eight focus groups with 58 women who had experience of the criminal justice system.
The focus groups were designed and facilitated by User Voice to seek the views of women service users in order to assist Wiltshire in future service planning and development.
This piece of work was completed by an all-woman team; the facilitators and the report author were all female.
Our experience in running consultations suggests that people who find engagement difficult are more prepared to talk to User Voice facilitators because of their own disclosed experiences of the criminal justice system.
The project offered an empowering opportunity for service users to speak about their experiences, give insight, and suggest improvements. Recommendations were then coproduced by the women service users.
