User Voice - Only Offenders Can Stop Re-Offending

HMPs Rye Hill & Wolds Prison Councils

Following the success of our Prison Council Model at HMPs Isle of Wight and Maidstone, User Voice were commissioned by G4S to develop councils at 2 of their prisons, each of which presented different challenges.

HMP Rye Hill

We are pleased to announce the following results of the recent election at HMP Rye Hill, held on 4 March 2013:

63% of votes were cast for the Red Party, 8% for the Green Party and 27% for the Gold Party.

As a consequence the Red Party now hold 9 seats, the Green Party 2 seats and the Gold Party 4 seats.

The election process was successful and included a positive 44% prisoner turnout.

A previous election took place at Rye Hill on 29 September 2011.

HMP Wolds

The election at Wolds took place on 29 September 2011.

One area on which we specifically focused was engagement with staff at the beginning of the projects.

This resulted in record turnouts on election day, with 74% of prisoners and 72% of staff taking part.
