User Voice - Only Offenders Can Stop Re-Offending

Northumbria Probation Trust Community Council

The first phase of our consultation in Northumbria is now complete, culminating in an ‘Open Space Event’ on 22 March 2012.

Phase 1 of the project included:

  1. A user-led survey of 509 service users;
  2. 72 of them took part in 14 discussion groups, and self-selected representatives (Reps) to attend the Open Space Event;
  3. The Event was attended by 20 service users and 17 probation staff.

At the Event, in-depth discussions took place about probation and other related services and the group worked together to agree a set of recommendations and an action plan.

The Reps will now help take the project forward to the next phase by becoming Northumbria Probation Trust’s first Community Council.

Regular council meetings with Northumbria Probation Trust senior management will provide an opportunity for the Reps to voice the concerns and ideas of the wider service user community in a solution focused way.
