Health and Justice Volunteer - London
User Voice is a charity led and delivered by people with lived experience of the criminal justice system. We bring together people impacted by the system with those who deliver its services, to co create transformative change, both in justice services and in people’s lives.
We actively welcome applications from people with convictions, recognising the insight and value that lived experience brings to our mission. We are looking for forward-thinking volunteers who are enthusiastic and motivated to use their IT skills and knowledge to support the work of User Voice and its involvement in issues affecting people involved in the Criminal Justice System.
the Role
We are currently commissioned by NHS England to gather insight into health and justice services—both in custody and in the community across London. Our mission is to ensure these services are shaped by the people who’ve experienced them first-hand.
We are looking for volunteers who have been in prison or on probation to get involved in our London project. This is a powerful opportunity for individuals who want to:
- Give back and make a difference
- Develop confidence and new skills
- Enhance employability
- Be part of something positive and transformative
- Draw on their lived experience to drive empowering change—for themselves and others
WHAT YOU’LL GAIN
Successful applicants will work alongside liked minded peers, working in both prison and community settings, to embed lived experience into the evaluation, design and commissioning of health justice services across London. In addition to this, volunteers:
- will receive a full induction and training into the role
- will be fully supported with monthly supervision, wellbeing plans and personal development plans
- will be paid for some activities within the role
Who we're looking for
Applicants must:
- have a genuine interest in criminal justice and User Voice
- have recent experience of leaving custody
- be stable in their lives and able to commit to the role
HOW TO APPLY
Please send a your CV and covering letter (a short expression of interest outlining why you’d like to volunteer with us and any relevant experience/skills) to: recruitment@uservoice.org. We will respond as we receive applications.
Interview and Start dates
Interviews will be held on an ongoing basis.
Start date will be ASAP (flexible)
This post is subject to a Basic criminal record disclosure check via the new Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) processes.
The purpose of the check is to ensure that the nature of the applicant’s criminal record, considered alongside evidence of the applicant’s rehabilitation, does not indicate that their employment in this role would put current service users at risk.
